Since their inception in 2014, Masala Coffee, this band which is based in Kerala, has set a benchmark of their own and have been touring non-stop ever since. For now, we plan to go with the flow.Varun, who is also one of the founders of the band, says the key behind their success is the blend of great talents in the band. Now, they recently did music for an upcoming Tamil movie Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal, which has Dulquer Salmaan in the lead. We amassed new experiences in each and every place that we’ve performed at. Every single one of them gave us a different experience, a lot of lessons were learned. Their first major composing was for Uriyadi, a Tamil movie directed by Vijay Kumar (Tamil filmmaker) consisting three songs.The band feels like our country’s culture towards independent songs needs to improve."Varun who has been in the industry for the past 12 years has also been making his solo projects. "Though the band is just four years old, every artiste in our band been in the music field for over a decade. The unconventional band is famous for their style of rendering great folk songs, adding a flavour of progressive rock. Their music has a freshness that gives the listener a feeling of energy. There was a time when its popularity took a dip, but in the recent times, efforts have been made to revive the art, especially by music bands. They have performed to jam-packed audience, leaving the crowd in euphoria. Every tribe has its own tales of adapting to the environment, their struggles and evolution. If you look at any band that is successful in folk music, they have someone with a unique voice. Raasayyaro, Puzhupulikal and Thannanam are some of their most listened songs from the lot. Avial, the band, has also inspired us a lot. Since our first live gig, we have been getting massive response from the public, especially the youth, who may not have even heard many of the folk songs that we sing.
